A little after midnight, Arianna Huffington posted an Introduction to The Huffington Post's newest addition to their online presence. She goes into detail about her motivations for this page, and expounds on her hopes for it to reach and help us have some perspective:
Gratitude has always been one of the most powerful emotions for me. And it's no coincidence that "grace" and "gratitude" have the same Latin root, "gratus." Whenever we find ourselves in a stop-the-world-I-want-to-get-off mindset, we can remember that there is another way and open ourselves to grace. And it often starts with taking a moment to be grateful for this day, for being alive -- for anything.
That's why I'm delighted to announce HuffPost Gratitude, a new section in partnership with American Greetings, featuring stories that illuminate gratitude's transformative power to bring a much-needed dose of perspective to our lives. We hope HuffPost Gratitude will be a place to share not only personal stories but tools and tips that can help each of us tap into our own gratitude in ways that can make our lives, and the lives of others, more meaningful and more fulfilling. That's why we're kicking off the new section with a series around the theme "What I'm Most Thankful For." - Arianna Huffington, www.twitter.com/ariannahuff
Social media has been a buzz! I jumped in on the action, being that my whole blog started with a post called: "Gratitude from the Bottom" and the under-current has been such in almost every post. Even when people thought I was ranting in "Pretty Girls Are Pretty Dumb....and other Hypocrisies Roaringly DEBUNKED!", I was really just calling for fairness and those who read the whole thing, knew that was a salute and nod to all the brave and out-of-the-box thinking women who paved the road for where we all find ourselves, today.
I had a wonderfully deep and meaningful day because I submersed myself in awe and gratitude for all that I have, had, and the hope that remains. The abundance of appreciation can shrink any stresses, pain or fears you find yourself fighting. Nothing is too terrible if you can re-frame all things from that place of Thankfulness. As a mother, my cup is overflowing. As I squint down the daunting tunnel, for the light, I give thanks to good friends. The kind that are invaluable, and familial.
Write the note. Hug the person. Send a care-package. Buy the Starbucks order behind you. Look back (and in the present) to count your blessings, and pay it forward with immense gratitude to as many as you can.
If only 10% of us could do that, everything could change! It ripples.
Thank you personally, if you know me and have affected me (positively or negatively) because I've learned something everyday. You may even be surprised that I send those whose disdain or judge me light and love. (to counter the balance) If I couldn't do that, I would be a hypocrite. So I reflect inward daily, to receive and give back.
Thank you, in general, for taking the time to read this far, and for letting my nobody-special voice be even a faint and fleeting blip on your day's radar. THANK YOU.
